Three photos of CF-HMX in the Canadian North on the Ruudeelew site. I had no idea a York was in such substantial condition in the bush, and wondered who salvaged engines and propellers from the wreck in the 70's. Also the plane would furnish significant raw material for a Lancaster rebuild.....would anyone be interested in recovery of a very expensive long term project?

Joe,
From what i understand, the 3 good engines were recovered and sent to the Uk. I am not sure why the propellors were simply removed and left on the ground.

I've spent some time hanging around this York. It is VERY isolated but not enough to prevent damage being done to it. It sits 30 miles outside of Hall Beach, Nunavut, in Canada's Arctic and as you can see by the photos has been crashed, burned, twisted and ravaged. Thought you might like to see it's throttle box hanging over my workbench.....pulled from what was left of the cockpit area!

Hercat,
Would there be any opportunity to have the cowlings and props recovered before they are damaged further??

I don't imagine she's changed too much. I did hear a rumour that one of the engines ended up on the Diemert Hurricane years ago. I think hercrat has some pictures of it just after the accident when it was almost repairable.
