Hi all,
When I landed in Bahrain on 9 October, I think I saw a PBY parked in the distance. It was dark, but the colour was possibly yellow.
Is this a possibility, or did I have too many drinks on the plane?

Hi Marc, possibly the Cat Qantas is ferrying to Australia. Timing is about right and she's yellow. She was in Thailand as of Oct 17.

#4 Luxor to Bahrain

Jay-walking police would make a fortune in Luxor...everyone wanders all over the roads, little donkeys dragging big carts along the freeways, cars and buses playing dodge-ems. Much safer in the Cat. Got airbourne about 9am, over the Nile, sand, Red Sea (very blue), then Jordan and Saudi Arabia ( more sand and small, rocky mountains) Quite turbulent, and the Cat is not pleasant to fly in such conditions. flies like a whale, wiggles it tail, nods its head all over the place. Sun went down with still a few hours to Bahrain, not too many lights out in the sands of Saudi. After 8 hours airbourne, approaching Bahrain, very pretty. So to let us enjoy it more, we were held at 9000 ft over the top, in holding patterns, on vectors 30nm north west, then back again. Eventually landed 9hrs and 9 minutes after t/o from Luxor. Very tired bunnies checked into the Gulf Hotel, scene of many good memories from the "good old days" when QF operated 747 Classics to and from London.
Day off 2morra..reckon we earnt it 2day.

Hi Marc, I don`t think you had to much to drink and there is a very good chance you did see a yellow top, red undersides PBY-5a former fire bomber in Spain.
This aeroplane has been aquired by the QANTAS Founders Museum, Longreach Queensland Australia and is in the process of being ferried home.
At the moment she is stuck in Pattaya Thailand with various engine and hydraulic problems, which we hope will soon be rectified.
The prospect of having three airworthy Cats in OZ is quite exciting
