I originally posted this in the aircraft spotting thread. But, haven't got a reply yet. Curiosity is driving me to distraction. I saw two jet warbirds flying formation today (Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009) over High Point, NC. About 2:20 p.m. local time. They had underwing hardpoints carrying stuff. Single engine jets. Painted light grey or maybe natural metal. It was overcast. They were too far away for me to make a positive ID without my glasses. My first impression was that they "looked like" Hawker Hunters. Anybody know what they might have been?

Is it possible they were just two F-16s? Or are you certain they were older Warbirds?

Swept wings?

Swept wings, nearly constant chord and long wings. Not like the stubby F-16, More like an F-86 or Saab 32 Lansen. Mildly swept, not like the extreme sweep of say a BAC Lightning or MIG 19. Long, somewhat slender fuselage like a Lansen or Hawker Hunter and similar empennage arrangement, also.
2 hardpoints under each wing, carrying a bunch of stuff.
The sound was closer to a pure turbojet than a bypass turbofan, thats what makes me think they were older aircraft. Plus, I can't think of anything in the current inventory that even comes close in appearance.
