I heard from a good source that it has been sold, that some work has been done on it to make it ferriable, and it will end up being based somewhere south of Oklahoma.

Only one place that could be and still be in the US... no, wait, that'd be the Republic of Texas, right?

Yeah! A little bird whispered that to me as well!

Looking forward to seeing it.

A little birdie told me today that the subject B-26K *may* arrive at its new home in Texas by the end of October. :D

Cheers,

Where is this B-26 currently located? What is the serial number? I don't have it in the database.

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

What kind of B-26 is it? Marauder or Invader? I am not as familiar with B-26 as I would like...

The B-26K Counter Invader was a modified and upgraded A-26 Invader.

From the NMUSAF web site comes this info:

"In 1966 the old bomber was resurrected once more when the improved B-26K Counter Invader returned to Southeast Asia for ground-attack missions along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Modified by On Mark Engineering, the B-26K had a rebuilt fuselage and tail, strengthened wings, improved engines, reversible propellers, wing-tip fuel tanks and other refinements. Redesignated A-26As, Counter Invaders remained in Southeast Asia until 1969 and retired from USAF service."

The redesignation back to A-26A was allegedly because America was not supposed to be operating "bombers" in Viet Nam during those times, but "attack" airplanes were acceptable (something about fighting a "limited war"?). Experts on aviation during the Viet Nam conflict are encouraged to correct me on this, because I sure don't have all of the facts (or perhaps any of them!).

Cheers,

Still at Billings, Montana, where it's been for the past few decades. Expect it to go to the Fort Worth area soon.
