Hi,

Thanks for the day brightener. My father was an aircraft electrician attached to VF-153 and would have worked on the plane in the foreground. I will send him the link!

The Cavanaugh Flight Museum, Addison, Texas, USA owns the last flyable Grumman Panther, a 1952 model, although they don't choose to fly it.

Hopefully the Museum can be convinced to let their Panther fly again at least during 2011 for the Centennial of Naval Aviation......

the way i understand it, the jets at Cavanaugh are pretty much going to stay on the ground, insurance reasons.

:(

I hope that's not an absolute final answer for the Panther and 2011 - it would be a real shame not to put that beauty back in the air for at least a few flights that year.

What do F9F airframes go for these days? I've seen a couple advertised, real junk ones, and have been surprised by the high asking prices. A good Hunter airframe can be had for circa £5K GBP over here in the UK.

Cheers,

George

From appearances, 313 must have been a maintenance hog. lots of scuffed/worn away paint on the aft edges of the aft wing to body fillets and scuffs/scratches/ tool marks all over the spine aft of the cockpit.
One those you are glad to see finally leave but hope it never returns because it wiull have some nagging issues upon return
'Sir, could you figure out a way to give this one back to the taxpayers without hurting yourself?'

IDK. But I have a recent picture of it that I took on Monday. I'll try to post it tonight.
