Great picture Jack. Having lived in the Phoenix area since 1979 I have many fond memories "Fat Cat" and the other resident Mustang from that time frame "Unruly Julie".

Chad, you forgot one 51, Ho Hun, Owned by Bill Hane.
My only Mustang ride was in Unruly Julie. I earned it for sitting with the 109 when it was in Maryvale Mall for a week. I was with it for close to 5 hrs a day for a week.

Of course you are correct Matt. I guess I was thinking of Mustangs that are no longer area residents! I was very young when "Unruly Julie" was around but my memory of the airplane is that it had some extremely nice metal work. Maybe it was just simply the fact that it was natural metal which was pretty uncommon for the period. It is still my favorite P-51 paint scheme.

We used a drop tank off of Unruly Julie on the P-64, Mike Clark loaned it to us. The idiot that crashed it on the first flight after restoration should have been tied to a prop. It was a accident waiting to happen, and it did.

In that paint job it had to have been Mojave 78 or 79 (the last year held).

Great shot. Horrible paint job, but I always liked it as one of the fastest 'super stockers'. Best finish was a 2nd place at Reno '82.
