Hey Mike,

thanks for passing that on. It's great to hear that she's back in the air. Any pictures for proof/bragging? lol.

Cheers,

David

Do you know if it will be done by the Scott AFB airshow next weekend or will they be sending Linda and her TBM?

So, just how many years does it take to do an "ANNUAL" on a B-25?! Seems like a lot of them have had the years catch up with them lately and are having major work done, coming back on line stronger and better than they have been in decades.

I certainly can't speak for every group maintaining an airplane, but the ones we've been involved with usually suffered from a lack of two main things: funding and volunteers. When big repairs or engine replacements come into the picture it really smarts!

It takes more time to do a (proper) annual on a full-breasted 64-year old than even a realatively young 20-year-old. More to look at and more to look for as they get older just like us....

I would rather do a full breasted 20yr old than a 64 yr old, but then that is just me.............

Easy does it boys!!! There are women and children on this site!
I wouldn't want to lift the amount of extra paperwork that older aircraft techs must check to see that everything is up to date with the latest squawk from the FAA, check this, check that, replace this, replace that, (right, like you can even get parts!) update this!!! Pretty soon you have a new aircraft!

If you ask Ray Clausen, over on the Yellow Rose thread, he can explain it better than I can, but most big airplanes like the B-25 don't get an annual inspection, they are under a progressive inspection program. That's usually divided up into at least an "A" inspection and a "B" inspection. So, how long it takes would depend on which inspection you were doing, and what was found that needed correction. Apparently there has been a lot missed over the past few years on our planes, but thankfully some new, sharper eyes are looking closer, finding and fixing things.

Class A inspection: any airplane pieces just hanging off the plane or laying on the ground, might need to check that!

Class B Inspection: Walk around plane, any pieces break off if you touch them? Can you make holes in control surfaces by sneezing? Any larger than usual puddles of fluid beneath the aircraft that shouldn't be there?

Class C Inspection: Open every panel, inspect every control cable, linkage, hose, tube, pipe, strut, valve, relay, grommet, rivet, hinge, seal, gasket, flange, gauge, instrument, ..........this may take a while depending on the size of the aircraft, take number of engines and multiply that number by the hours you expect to take to do this task!
