Just curious as to what number it carries & it's current status.

There are many expert here that will for sure know of it's current status in a blink better than I.

Too lazy to look up the registery & I only took a few minutes of procrastination at work to post :wink:

Ibelive the bearcat was restored in the USA and is now flying in Thailand.

The flying bear is another Bu number I believe.

Scroll down and you'll see the Bearcat in question. It's one of a few that are still in Thailand apparently. And it looked the same as of '04 (according to the caption). The photo also has the Thai serial number with it. :-)

Not a true P-64 but a replica built and flown in the United States before being exported to Thailand. I have slides of it from Oshkosh.

The prop on that P-64 just looks really wrong! But if it was built to actually fly, I guess you have to use what you can get and mechanically support.

I spent a couple days at the RTAB at Koke Kathiem, Thailand in '94. Seemed like C-47 central. Lots of Helios as well. I would like to say O-1s but I can't remember for sure and had no camera. You can find it on google maps and clearly see the C-47 portion of the ramp.

That prop was the only one we could find that was short enough to give us any ground clearance and to use the power the engine puts out. That is a 1425HP R-1820, 425 more HP than in the re-engined original P-64. If I remember right we had about 4 inches of clearance when the plane was on the mains.
