Shuttleworth Pageant 6th September 2009 - pics

The annual Shuttleworth Pageant took place on 6th September, the day started sunny but sadly just as the flying started a band of high level white cloud arrived to spoil the light for photography. Strong winds also made the flying challenging.

(for those who don’t know, the blue car is Richard’s Railton sports car and the aircraft is G-EBKY the Sopwith Pup (then a Dove) purchased by Richard Shuttleworth in 1936).

Before the general public are let in, the aircraft are put out to pasture!

By the time you get in the engineers and pilots have been pushing and pulling aircraft for a couple of hours.

Okay, dumb question time (again).........

On the airplane featured in the "caption contest" photo, why did they put the window roller-downer on the outside of the airplane, right next to the exhaust?

That's the booster magneto, the mechanic spins it while the prop is being spun, to help starting.

Looks like Rob Millinship giving directions, one of the really good guys I met while spending 11 weeks over there in 2005, helped inspire me to buy a Pitts.

Great photos of a great venue. Would like to see a Pitcairn Autogiro doing a couple of shows there next summer, and am looking for sponsors...
