I am looking for names of surviving aviators of VMF-223
and VMSB-232 who first landed at Henderson Field on
Guadalcanal in August 1942. Can anyone point me in
their direction??

Thanks,
Owen

Owen,

I'm assuming you've done everything you can via Google searches and the like. The sad truth of the matter is that any surviving aviators who landed with the unit in 1942 would likely be 87 or older. I belong to the VMB-433 Association as a family member and it seems a month doesn't go by that I recieve notice that a member of the squadron has passed. We have 2.5 million surviving WWII vets in the U.S. and we are loosing them at the rate of 1000 per day. Staggering. Do the math and we will be able to count them in the thousands or less in ten years time. Best wishes in your search.

Craig

Bruce Prosser was our next door neighbor back in the early 80s.
He was the 232 XO and died at least 10 years ago in his 80s :(

In the early 70s (guessing when) after he retired from the Corps. He was told by prospective employers that he was a washed up nobody after which he committed suicide
