Yesterday I finally got to see the B-36 at Pima back together after many years as just parts. Though it still has detail work left it is mostly complete and looks pretty good.

When I lived in south Florida in the late 70's, I knew a guy who was a tail gunner on the 36. He would tell you that during take off, the airframe would twist and groan and the event was disconcerting until you got used to it. That is one "BIG" airplane.

Most shots were with a wide angle as I did not want to march all over the place to keep taking shots, but the following one was takn with a 50mm lens. I felt like I was a quarter of a mile away!

Thanks for the B-36 photos. I meant to drop a DVD of the Air Force Museum by the office yesterday, but half way to Tucson I remembered it was still at home.

What can ya say about a bird like that . . . but . . . WOW! There's yer basic aluminum overcast right there. I sure hope it isn't too much longer before I can get my empennage out there and see that flock with my own eyes.

Q: I don't guess there's any hope of clear glass out there? I imagine all the plexi is covered with UV-protecting paint or whatever it is, or it'd be crazed in six months. Is there any glimpsing the interiors of these a/c?

The B-36 has some nice lines until you get to the greenhouse style cockpit (in my opinion)

I'll have to go and have a look next time I'm in Tucson.

It's wonderful to see City of Fort Worth restored to such a magnificent state, after seeing her slowly rotting outside the Lockheed plant for so many years. Hats off to the Pima Air Museum staff for a job well done!

James , fair warning, I'm coming back out at X-mas time to see that monster Great job by the crew you have

'Fraid not. About 95% of the ones out doors have the windows covered. There are some helicopters that don't have them all painted over so you can see in those for now. All of the aircraft on display inside have clear windows but the only ones you can really see inside of are the B-24 and the B-29 which have their bomb bays open. We're looking at the possibility of stairs up to the sides of a few more of the indoor displays.
