Looking for info on B-17 Loss

Trying to help a friend about the death of his uncle. His name was Joe or Jose Soriano KIA in a B-17, he said an E model," possibly named "Mighty 8th" in 1944.

Going by the serial number, it was a early G model
Boeing B-17G-10-BO Fortress 42-31248
