Are you sure it was 1987? The Lanc didn't have it's first flight until September 1988, so it must have been 1989 or after. :)

I don't know when the first flight was, but I know my Kodak pictures of the Lancaster at Namao are all dated 1987 on the back!

Ether way its at least 20years and the vets are all looking forward to it.

I seen the Lanc at Abbotsford and I believe it was in 1990. It was there with the CWH's Hurricane and Spitfire TE308.

Would be nice if they kept heading west to Abbotsford again. hint..hint!

No I wasn't sure... hence the "hmmmmm" It was the first time the MIG 29s were in North America so it must have been 1989. I know I have pictures. I also remember the sunburn

July 30th, 2009 Aviation Heritage week

Changing of the Guard

CF-86 Hawk One is leaving Edmonton today, its spectacular visit has made the many people that visited the aircraft happy and the thousands watching its flights in the last few days and over Commonwealth Stadium tonight will attest it does make the Air Shudder.

July 31st Will see another icon of a past age arrive in Edmonton. Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s AVRO Lancaster will be arriving Friday between 4pm and 7pm for a three day visit to our Capital City.

You will feel the Thunder of the four 1700 cubic inch (28L) Supercharged Rolls Royce Merlin engines as it flies over Edmonton. The massive wingspan of over 100ft and Camouflage upper and Black lower paint will leave a wide shadow across the City.

One of World War Twos mightiest bomber was flown by Canadians of the RCAF in the European theater of War and those assigned to the RAF. This aircraft, dedicated as the Mynarski Lancaster, is a tribute to all of Canada’s WW2 veterans and its visit to Edmonton will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for many.

The Lancaster will be on display at the Alberta Aviation Museum from arrival Friday till 9pm as well as August 1st and August 2nd from 10am to 9pm. The aircraft will be departing for approx 2 ½ to 3hrs each day to do flypasts at the Cold Lake Air Show.

Your regular admission to the Alberta Aviation Museum will allow viewing and a tour
(time permitting) of the Lancaster as well as all wonderful features of the Alberta Aviation Museum.

We would like to thank the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum for making this visit possible and look forward to seeing the Lancaster, one of only two flying in the World today.
