Folks:

Just recently explored a former Japanese WW2 airfield in Papua, Indonesia. We thought we would find some wrecks there, but it turned out to be abandoned. I'll post some pictures in a few days. Any aviation writers want to do an article on it?

I'm not surprised, the war ended 64 years ago ;)

Yeah, and you opened this post, and we took numerous risks to get to it. With this sort of contempt, I probably won't post anything else about this. Even the stuff we found.

Relax Chris, he was just joking. See the smiley face at the end. Please don't take lessons from FlyingHeritage and get hyper-sensitive on us. I personally DO care to find out what you found. Your adventures have always interested me. :)

a2c, did you happen to venture into irian jaya, which during ww2 was dutch new guinea?? i'm asking because there was a major airdrome at sawar where my dad's rifle company was ambushed on a patrol. i've got the pics, & they are posted on pacificwrecks.com. wrecked japanese aircraft as far as the eye can see, many oscars, amongst others. if interested go to the website, go to veterans, find my dad's name, major martin m. friedman u.s. army & you'll hit pay dirt for certain!!i'm interested in your trip / excursion!! please don't let somebody's misunderstood post stand in the way of a great topic.

Eagerly waiting for the photos to be posted. Even if none of them are from dreamed complete wrecks that are logically nonexistant today.

I'm eagerly awaiting to learn more about your trip too.

And Tom, I'm sorry to hear about your father's recent passing. What an experience he must have had in such a strange world so different to what he was familiar with. Did he ever return to those areas after the war? Very interesting pictures too.

Cheers,

David

daveymac, he never returned to where he fought, & only started talking about his ww 2 combat in 1995.

Hi Tom. Just read your fathers page on pacificwrecks. Very interesting. I too am sorry to hear of his recent passing. He must have seen some sights. Thanks for posting the link.
All the best, Willie.
