Anyone catch the F-100 episode in the "Great Planes" TV series? I know most here weren't impressed with previous episodes in this series, but I think this one was better.

Having a former Hun driver do a lot of the talking was a good idea I think. Someone that actually flew the airplane was a smart addition in my opinion. I was just a little disappointed that they didn't talk about the QF-100 drones at the end, other than that I think it was pretty good.

I did catch that episode and was impressed by the 100's 65,000 sorties and over 95% operational readiness...,

One heII of an airplane and what amazing groundcrews they must have had as well to achieve that %!

I caught it and must say that it was a major improvement over the last season episodes. They got rid of the stupid MTV style edit cuts, flash effects, speeding up the footage etc....., they could have found a better looking Hun for the static and interview shots though.

Much better. Next new episode is the F-4.

Ha, I thought the same thing Pete! Or at the very least cleaned her up a bit better, eh? :)

I can't forgive them for the P-51 episode.

It started with the self-aggrandizing pilot/host saying "I've got a few hours on this baby myself..."

And after I had a seizure from all of the sped-up footage and quick cuts, they described how the Malcolm hood greatly increased visibility and pretty much saved the war (while showing footage of the D-model with the bubble canopy.)

Maybe one day they will get rid of their lazy writers and researchers.

I watch it for the unique movie clips and to watch em fly, their generalizing and faux paux can be a bit maddening. The quick edit cuts, loud music and "vintage" filters over the film clips are irritating, as well as throwing in clips of things that have nothing to do with what is being discussed and thus do not add to the thing at hand.

I agree this episode was much better. I watched it during the repeat late at night so I was pretty tired, but only noticed once where they used shots of an aircraft that didn't make sense at all.

In New Zealand you can buy the "Great Planes" series on
DVD for about $6 each. I've collected many and would
rate the A-26, C-47, Catalina and Blackbird ones among
the best.
The B-36 episode features Alaskan cold weather ops
footage which was very informative.

I caught this episode a few nights ago and I agree it was much better than the earlier ones. I was glad they let the Hun' pilot do the talking and not the host.

I also noticed the plane they were standing infront of had some lovely bird $H#* on it. Too bad they couldnt have taken a bucket and some soapy water and rinsed the poor thing off first...

"The F-100 was awsome! So lets stand infront of one thats covered in poo"
