Giving Dad a Ride

Having the oppertunity to be able to fly is a blessing, being able to share it with your Dad makes it even more so. Few weeks ago I got to do just that, take my Dad up in a T-33, the kind of plane he had in primary jet training. Col. Schwerman later went on to fly F-86's, F-89's and KC-97's with an airforce carreer that lasted 35 years. Thanks to the many who helped make this happen, Keppeler, Allen, Henning, Vlado, VanLear, it was an awesome day.

To those of us who's Dad has passed, it's difficult to even imagine. In your case Carl, we thank you for a vicarious moment. Way to go, I'm sure your smile will last for awhile, and thanks to Paul for providing the wings.

That's great! I would have loved to have gotten my dad in a 51 again before he passed. You done good.

My dad flew a desk in the AF, I could probably still afford a "checkflight" in one of those! Though he did ride in Connies and Boxcars over Japan and Korea (in the back)!

Great for you!!! That is FANTASTIC!!!!

I could not get my father to even walk up to a plane after the war, let alone go along for a ride. I guess in his later years all the 'bad' stuff from his flying days began to surface. He would never talk about them., but would just glare at them.

If there was a Stearman at an airshow, he would almost trot up to her. Training in a Stearman were different times. Happier times!

Carl, that was a great day. It was a privilege for me to be there in person and witness a special sortie for you and "the Colonel" and for that matter play crew chief for you guys. His old K-2B flightsuit still fit...how 'bout that!

Yeah those grins on both their faces were pretty big that day.. it was a
special time.. It was a real treat for me to take the photos..
They had a blast up there! He'd been up and down that T33 ladder a few
times as well!

Carl had worked very hard to get himself through the T33 checkride a couple
weeks earlier and I think this was a big feather in his cap to be able to take
dad back up for a thrill. Great going carl! Proud of you for your efforts and
accomplishments lately!
