Warbird Information Exchange

Hi everyone,

I thought it would be a neat idea to hear what people think are some of their best local treasures when it comes to warbirds. I'd like to hear what specific aircraft or artifacts (not collections) you think are the top 2 or 3 within their State, Province, or region. For warbird havens like Texas or California, or England, I'd probably suggest breaking it down to even smaller areas.

So, I'll start:

In British Columbia, and more specifically the Greater Vancouver area I'd have to say our top treasures are:

1.) Handley Page Hampden - RAF 5436 (Langley, BC) Canadian Museum of Flight
2.) P-40E Kittyhawk - RCAF 1034 (Victoria, BC) Private Owner
3.) de Havilland Mosquito MK B35 - VR796 (Victoria, BC) Private Owner

I figure this would make a good thread for people to look at if they plan on travelling to different areas around the world. They could be made aware of airplanes they never through were to be in the area.

For instance, I'm leaving tomorrow to go to Central Oregon (Bend, Sun River, and Ashland) and I don't really know what there is to see warbird-wise. Does anyone have suggestions or connections?

I look forward to hearing what everyone else feels are their local treasures.

In the midwest the rarest treasure by far is the Ju 87 Stuka at the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago. www.msichicago.org/whats-here/exhibits/ ... raft/stuka

In the inland Northwest USA a tip of the hat to the Warhawk Air Museum in Nampa Idaho (just west of Boise). They are flying two P-40s ( -E and -N ), and soon will fly a magnificent P-51B. They have a part interest in a B-25 which is often in residence. They are finishing up a static F-86F. They also have a hangar full of exhibits and artifacts that is well woth several hours of perusal. Great folks, too!

David, if you're in Bend for the dinner hour one day, my sister Gail runs an excellent restaurant called "The Pine Tavern", in downtown Bend. Well worth a visit...

A friend just a few miles west has a Stearman still in the original crate having never been assembled since it was built and crated for delivery

Dare I ask how much their asking for it?

I'd be happy to empty that crate of theirs so they can finally put the box to good use. It's a shame having a perfectly good box filled with useless airplane junk...

Anyone else got some treasures in their area?

Does that Stearman box say Guillow's on it?

He's had it for 4-5 years. I'm thinking he's not in a big hurry to sell it.
Would sorta be a crime to restore it.
He's got a nice flying PT-17 and a D-17.
It would look cool though sitting in it's crate at P-cola.
