I recently had my Dad's 8mm film converted to digital files and had a DVD set done as well. When reviewing a reel from 1960, I stumbled across This Clip. I'd appreciate any comments and opinions on what kind of aircraft and flying team they might be.

Looks like F-86s to me.

Judging by the year and the routine, I'd put my money on the Golden Hawks.

I'm split. Initial thought would be F-86's, but some of the profiles don't look quite right and look more like a Hawker Hunter. However, I think that they are US F-86s by the smoke trail that you see.

I did an overlay of the aircraft profile and I did a stop motion screen shot of your video and it is 99.9% a Hawker Hunter of the Black Arrows. They performed with up to 16 aircraft in 1960.

Here is an image.

However, now that I looked at it for another 20 minutes, it actually has a fatter snub nose like an F-86......

darn, I cannot decide!

Doesn't look like Hunters to me - especially from the sides. I vote for F-86s.

I think Ryan you are correct, I just looked at it again for another 20 minutes and made a conclusion that it is an F-86, after looking at the video again and making another overlay.

That's what happens when you spend two years building a model off and on - it's shape gets quite familiar! It was actually a Black Arrows marked Hunter!

F-86 has a shorter nose and less of a tapered wing but with more wing sweep than the Hunter. Definitely F-86's.

As I said before...

The airshow is in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, has 4 plane, 5 plane and solo acts, and are flying Sabres, so it has to be the Golden Hawks.

And if you're still not sure, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVo9InROAXY

The 5-plane formation trailing white smoke from the center aircraft is a dead giveaway.

Golden Hawks and the F-86.

Thank you all... I've updated the YouTube description to credit Wixers 8) . It was a great step back in time with my Dad on this one, lots of historical stuff to see and he really appreciated seeing all these memories once again.

Actually I found another one of an old four-prop job arriving at Edmonton International Airport. I think it might be a DC-6 but again... I'm not sure. Would anyone be interested in seeing/identifying it?

Sure - go ahead and post it.

It may be a Canadair DC-4M Northstar.
