CWH Flyfest 2009

Sun Jun 21, 2009 8:00 pm

Spent the day at the CWH for their little show that gets bigger and bigger every year :D . Lotts of flying including two flights of their new Lizzie. They had planned a formation pass of the Lancaster, B25, Firefly and Lizzie but the Lance. had a problem and landed right away with firetrucks waiting for it ( not sure what happened, heard it had a engine problem shortly after takeoff ).

Nice photos Dave, I was too busy moving planes arranging fueling, looking after the military guys, servicing O2 etc, to even take a single photo today.
Great flybys though.
The Lanc had a minor hydraulic issue that required a precautionary. Nothing serious. She should be back in the air before you know it with the team we have on her!
What a great day for the event though, weather couldn't have been better today after yesterdays washout!

That is very good news, better to be safe than sorry.

They were some very impressive passes today, the B25 crew always beat up the field good and the Mig15 did some very low fast passes too.

Was a great day for the CWH, the crowd was just huge.

Cheers and thanks

Fantastic pictures Dave...I was there on Sat for the hangar event

But I was smart enough to spend the Friday at the museum also...so I was lucky to see some prep activities while the sun was still shining nicely...

Dave,
Nobody captures stack flames like you seem to be able to :o
I liked the gold Sabre first time I saw photos of it.
Now have to say the same about that Hornet!

Very nice!!!
Here's my question. Why do most round engine British type a/c have the front part of the cowling left in bare metal?????
Am I wrong or didn't the 25 have a top turret and was black previously???

Will you be at Geneseo this year?

Because it's an exhaust collector ring, Jack. If you look at the first shot, of the taxiing Lizzie, you can see the long exhaust coming from it and down the fuselage.

Some nice shots there Dave, the third one (of the Lizzie airborne) is an absolute cracker!

Excellent shooting Dave. Rick sure looks like one proud pilot.

The B-25 has always been that color. It has had some touch ups ove rthe years, never black but dark green. The top turret is a cosmetic turret only ( no access from inside) and is currently off to get new glass formed for it. Hasn't been a priority with all that we have been up to with the Lysander and getting the fleet going for 2009, but should be back on later this season or at least for 2010.
Thats me running the B-25 on Friday.

OK...well that makes sense.

It was well worth the trip, my first back to Hamilton since 2003. Hoped to get the St Thomas show in, but with only one decent weather day, I went for the warbirds..OF COURSE (A shot across the bow of Mr. Dumigan! :) )

Dave, I'm sorry I didn't meet up with you. Nice shots, by the way! I looked around early when the crowd was light, then assumed that you went to St. Thomas like many others. Nice shots.

Jerry's passes in the Mustang were so far away, my shot is a 50% crop.

Just wish they'd have flown more after 1:30 or so when it cleared up for good. The Centennial flight came in 5 minutes early. Had it been 5 minutes later for its 12:30 scheduled time, there would have been some nice sky and sun.

Also scheduled was to have a 2:00 flight and a 3:15 flight, but just did the one at 2:45 where the Lanc kept the gear down and landed immediately. The Lysander and Mitchell returned for their pass about an hour later. I left at 4 (7+ hour ride home). Did anything else fly?

PS_ When did the B-25 get it's nose-art changed from "Grumpy" to "Hot Gen"? I know it was a while ago, just trying to narrow it down.
