Gary's dumb question, #367....ejection seats

Thu Jun 18, 2009 7:00 pm

Since I've somehow gotten myself involved in the freakin' jet Warbird world now, I've got a ton of learnin' to do. My latest curiousity was about ejection seats on the F-101 vs. the F-105. A quick Google search has, I believe, answered my question, but I think that something like this has to be run through WIXers before I can call it "confirmed." :-)

So....Are the ejection seats in the F-101 the same as the F-105? Or as a side-bar, could a seat out of a Thud somehow be shoe horned into a Voodoo?

NO !The seats in the F105 are specific to the 105. They were Republic seats. F101 had either McDonnel seats or Weber seats.

Well, that's pretty much what I gathered after researching Google, but I reckon I just had to hear it here as well. Dang it.

Thanks Rick,
Gary

Thanks for all of the info y'all. I sure wish someone hadn't stolen the front seat out of what is now "my" Voodoo. It would be pretty neat to have another one in there someday.

Gary I'm still waiting for your FIRST stupid question and I'm not getting any younger.
Now here's my stupid question (and I'm a professional at this!). Do you want it to look good or work??? If it's for asetics?? If it's the former why not get a seat and beat it into submission and put it in??!! I'm bet the average Joe or even JDK wouldn't know the difference. The only problem you may come up with is Eric D's setting one of his anoraks upon you!! If that happens you're on your own pal!!!

I'm just wanting to put a seat in there, but I was hoping for an original type. But heck, I may just be putting the cart before the horse. I gotta get it here to Austin Acres first.

Should contact amarc and see if they have anything?

Unfortunately, Peter, ejection seats are considered a demil D item and therefore subject to destruction. AMARG wouldn't release it if they had them.

Probably loads of paperwork to get it across the border. It's part of a weapon of war, you know !

Gary,

There used to be (eight years ago) a guy in Decatur that had a small collection of ejection seats. I don't remember what they came out of or if he is even still there, but it is a possibility. He had some kind of military surplus store that he ran out of a little house on the west side of town.
