July 4th Boston Flyover question

July 4th evening Flyover in Boston... Do any of our New England WIXers know if this is purely a military flyover, or does it include some warbirds?

For the past few years it has been a 4 ship F-15 or F-16, very lame 1 pass no burner, lights on. I have seen C-5's, B-2's but not in a while.

Shannon and I will probably go,
I will stay on the Cambridge side of the river, we have a great spot, pack dinner and snacks, less than 5 bucks to park, near speakers and a great view of the Fireworks.

Well, it looks like I'll be there in Boston from the 1st through the 4th. May actually be at Boston Commons on the 4th.

The Fireworks do not take place on the Common, if you didnt know already.
They are on a barge set in the Charles River, with the annual Concert being played at the Hatch Memorial Shell on the Boston side of the river.
People will watch from both sides and from the bridges that cross at either end, the Longfellow and Mass Ave. bridges. There are speakers set up all around the area so everyone can listen to the show.

We live about 18 miles away, so we usually drive in at 5pm or so and get to our spot and hang out until the concert begins. Fireworks are at 10:30PM. It was much better when it wasnt rearranged to line up with a live broadcast, The 1812 was done right before the fireworks went up.

Shannon and I went to Symphony Hall a couple of weeks ago, we saw John Williams conducting another one of the BSO's "Film nights".
It is so cool to hear Yoda's Theme played live. :wink:

That would be awesome. I just spent, altogether, 3 weeks in Boston on business, one block over from Boston Common. Great city, great food, great history = Great time.

The 4th in Beantown would be an experiance for sure. Maybe not as good as a Red Soxs vs. Yankees game at Fenway but a close 2nd :wink:

Well, the event is going on throughout the week, ending on the fourth, and yes, the Commons is one of the locations. Sounds like fun. I'll be waaay off the WIX for almost two weeks - probably a good, good thing.

I have been on the Boston side of the river for the 4th of July the past 6 or 7 years. It gets pretty busy the closer the you get to the concert. Around 9 PM the area along the river gets really busy. We typically go in around 2 PM, and pick our spot so that we can see the fireworks. Taking a picnic and watching the people walk by can make a good way to spend the afternoon/evening. The most difficult part is getting out when the fireworks are over. There are only a couple of bridges that cross the highway that runs along the park. Unless you are good at scaling walls and fences, you have to wait to get across the bridges. They estimate that between 500,000 and 600,000 people form along the Boston side of the river to watch the fireworks, so if you go, be prepared to get close to a lot of strangers.
