One week from THIS weekend!

I will be there with Capitol Wing APS, on the main ramp this year, I understand. We are doing a CBI theme. I will have the WWII Aircraft Radio Display with me. Most likely, it will be a static display, as I have not had much time to work on it the past year! I am not taking the B-26 mounting this time, simply doing a layout on tables in our Ops tent. Hopefully, I will have 110AC power for the Hallicrafters receiver & BC-348 which was modded. The BC-375 will be there for looks, along with lots of WWII radio tech books...

I am hoping any of my WIX friends who come to the WWII Weekend will swing by & say "Hi"

Anyway, Hope to see some of you guys there!

I'll try to be there, but I have to play GI Joe that weekend (FRI-SUN) since I just reenlisted, but I'll see if I can sneak away for Saturday. Robbie can u tell me exactly where you will be, and I'll come say hi.

As I understand it, we will be opposite the main ramp, in front of the MAAM hangar.

I will probably be in HBTs, and some sort of CBI influenced flight gear... Either as pilot(Capt.) or Radio Operator(SSgt)

Not really sure yet... I don't have a map of the flightline area, but know we will be close to aircraft!

For the first time in several years the Dixie Wing's SBD Dauntless will be at Reading...many thanks to Russ and team for making this happen.

Be sure to check out the complete 1943 period restoration on this a/c; nothing has been left untouched. Every time I get to ride/fly in it I discover something new.

I have about 25 hrs dual in it; a few things I didn't know about SBDs to check out if you are at Reading:

- Douglas outfitted the gunner's position with flight controls; could be put to use to fly back to the carrier if the pilot was incapacitated

- Check out the armor in the rear gunners position. Even with paltry Japanese 7.7 bullets this was a day job that did not often lead to an easy retirement

- The radios in the back are original Delco; there is even a transmitter key

- There is a window in the bottom of the pilots floor used to judge when to push over; we try to keep it clean but oil tends to fog it up a bit

At Reading I hope you get to enjoy the Lady In Blue as much as we do!

Robbie I'll keep an eye out for you. Last year I saw your radio's but didnt find you. I'll be there on Friday.

I am thrilled that I will get to see the CAF's SBD. I have never seen a "live" Dauntless. It will be awsome to see an airworthy Helldiver, Dauntless, and Avenger all at the same show! (Not to mentions Jim's Spitfire, Roush's Old Crow... etc)

Florida was great!! Spent an afternoon at Fantasy of Flight and got to see the Feisler Storch fly! Great time.

One of my trips to FoF a few years back, I saw the Storch engine in peices, it was right after the Storch had the engine seize in flight at low altitude. Not a big deal with that AC, he just turned it into the wind and gently set her down! That would be about the only one in the collection that could easily handle that sort of thing!!!!

Since you are DA MAN as far as controlling the air show, perhaps you can clear up some earlier speculation on the Gathering/Event forum.

The flight plan for the last two years had the planes make their passes parallel to Runway 18-36 which was good for photography. According to the most recent map on the MAAM website, the show line is orientated back to Runway 13-31 which makes good photography difficult (shooting into the sun from the crowd line). Some of us might want to relocate to parking areas on the opposite side of the runway during the air show unless the planes' orbits take them fairly close to the north end of 18-36. I would be helpful if you could provide some guidance on the likely orbit route.

Bump. Would love to get an answer to Jeff's question, if at all possible, in advance of the show. I'm sure all of us will go and pay our admission either way, but it would really help to determine what photo gear I will bring.

Thanks for the links TAdan. What is your interpretation? The ASB guys seem to assume, but not be sure, that the flypasts will be on 18-36 as last year. The map shows the battleground relocated next to 13-31 which makes me think the flypasts will be over 13-31 as well.
