Going through my Dad's old slides I came across several airshow sets from the mid to late 70's. In them they depict the Thunderbirds when they flew the Talons. This led me to google the T-bird Talons and came across this curious picture.
It's a T-birb Saber in formation with the Talons. It's odd because the Talons did not relieve the Sabers. Phantoms flew as Thunderbirds inbetween the Sabers and Talons.
So what's the story behind this picture? Is this the USAF Museum's T-bird Saber on delivery?
(not my dad's pictures)

I'm pretty sure that this was a photo done with an aircraft that was on it's way to museum display. I wouldn't doubt that this is the AF Museum's bird. I'm sure that Mustangdriver would know about that.

THe summer of 1977 is when the USAF Thunderbirds presented the NMUSAF with the F-100. Does that seem to fit what you were thinking. I can't tell if it is the same one from the pic or not.
