Nice pics as usual. I too hope Mark is doing OK, we've had enough fires here in FL to keep us on our toes! But the fire threat goes away when the hurricanes arrive!!!

I hear tell that the escorts that fished aviators out of the drink, traded them for 5 gallons of ice cream....so what's the going rate for an airman these days?!?

Jack,

The first photo is actually none other than Roy " Butch " Voris of later Blue Angels fame. There is a copy of that shot in Robert Wilcox book " First Blue"

Isn't that also the scheme that used to be on Bob Pond's Hellcat?

Thx Jack, sad time in SB, but we'll survive. Anyone in Watsonville for the airshow this weekend? I hear the CAF's hellcat is there .... BTW ... who's #36 Hellcat in your first photo? ... I'd love to see a photo of dad's Hellcat's on the Hornet ... I've got the Bu No's for the missions he flew, but no photos.

M

#36 is VF-2 Hellcat with Butch Voris in the cockpit. This is one of the photos in " First Blue " book by Robert Wilcox on Voris career from WW2 through Blue Angels and after.
