I'm looking at getting on with an operator that flies DC-3s, but I need a type rating, tried to google it but couldn't find anything. Does any one have any suggestions for places? How many US companies, and what are they, that are operating the Gooney bird?

The guy who flies the Herpa DC-3 out of Georgia will put you in either seat until you run out of money. You can get whatever ratings you want:

Yep...go to Georgia with cash and fly the machine!

$6395.00 and six days gets you from C-172 guy to Multi and DC-3 Type Rating...

Woot!

I heard one time over at Midway, KJWY, that you could get a type if you talk to the owner with cash. This was back when Juan ran the airport, not now...

I think Skip Evans at Perris, CA was doing type ratings if he isn't dropping skydivers or flying in movies.

The DFW Wing was at one time doing Type Ratings in the R4D, don't know if that's still available, but contact info is available on the website - www.dfwwing.com. Also, until recently you get them at the Prairie Aviation Museum, but I just found out that they sold the aircraft to someone in Florida. :(

Dan Gryder (Herpa DC-3) out of Griffin, GA (just south of Atlanta) is the guy to go to....he has a complete course with thorough ground school and is set up for the training. He'll work with you as needed.
