J-47 engine experts: this one's for you!

VFM's NAA F-86F-30-NA Sabre (52-4689) needs an engine. We don't have a complete one. Will a J-47 from a B-47 bomber work in an F-86? If not, how much of the engines will interchange?

Does anyone out there have a J-47 Sabre engine that they'd care to donate?

Cheers,

Sir,

From my understanding, they are the same engine. The differance is that the Saber engine has an Aux Fuel contorl and Hyd Pump. There is a mod out there to add them to the B-47 engines.

Laterrrr

It is my understanding that that is also the same engine used on the KC-97L models. (one on each outboard)

Might want to call someone in Greybull, WY, there were a few of those lying around in Hawkins and Powers' stuff, I dont know what's become of it.

Look at page 14; Avn-tech says he has a J-47 in the can. You might want to send him a message.

Thanks, Kevin.

I've got a nearly complete -27 engine (missing the cans and some other pieces) in the VFM warehouse hangar. I'm also looking into a couple of -25s nearby that could be good parts donors. I'll definitely do some digging on your heads-up---after visiting with Sabremech I feel like a spare serviceable unit would be pretty handy.
