Thought you all might be interested in this. Photos of the remnants of the late Cottonmouth III, Jerry Janes' old HU-16A. It's now entombed on a Mexican beach after being shot down by the Mexican air force whilst drug running in 2004. Photos are from 2006. *Note these are not my photos*

Guess they were better shots than the Jamaican authorities that tried to shoot down Jimmy Buffet in his amphibian a few years back!

I can't believe nobody has tried to claim it for salvage.

How unnecessary!

It doesn't look THAT bad, but now that it has been there that long, I am sure corrosion is an issue.

If you look in the third photo you will see that the aircraft is now in two pieces. The tail section is some ways behind, buried in the sand with only the fin sticking out. Very sad end to a beautiful aircraft. Cool pix though... amazing how quickly an aircraft can be swallowed by the sand!

Cheers,
Richard

What a waste of a great airplane! I still remember Jerry taking it into Lake Whatcom a few times; got the neighbors all stirred up

How's he doing nowdays?

Hi Hal,

Jerry is doing well. He is having fun playing with his Beech 18, CJ-6, and Morava L200.
