Regarding Aron not being so lucky the second time - It's aircrew superstition among some to never to be photographed alongside battle damage. Sadly, I've seen a number of photos over the years, just like that, where the caption tells that the subject eventually didn't survive.

Thankfully I've never had any holes that I knew about but I do remember a photo that hung for some time of a C-130 pilot with a shattered swing window after being hit on the ramp in Sarajevo ... wonder what happened to that guy?

Ken

Hmmmm, perhaps that's why the FAA was trying to keep the wraps on bird strikes....don't want to jinx the planes! Very scientific!!!
On a tour of the local NOAA hangar, we noticed that one of the AC had a couple bird silhouette stickers on it. The NOAA crewman taking us on the tour told us they were for bird-strikes!!
