I have a friend with a generator and he would like it to go some info.

Back in the late 40's, Chuck, who has always been mechanically inclined, was reading an issue of Popular Mechanics that explained how to convert a genarator to a welder. So off he went to the war surplus and purchased a Westinghouse type P1 generator, mfg. part number 7A5838-GR1A. He never did get around to experimenting with it so it's still in the original crate with all the inspection tags still attached.

So what aircraft would it have come from?

So far I can tell you that it is for a radial engine of some kind. Still offered for sale as overhauled units by Aero Accessories.
