There is something strange about this P-51

As a novice, shouldn't it have a dorsal fillet?

I took it about 20 years ago.

No, the early D models did NOT have the fillet. I personally like that look even better, but it had some strength or stability issues I believe.

Here's an older thread with Mustangs without the fillet mod.

It is either a P-51-5NA or P-51K-1NT

The P-51D-10 and all succeeding D/K's came from factory with fillet and kits were shipped to convert the -5NA and -1KT along with existing P-51B/C's.

Was that the P-51 involved in a museum swap with a Spitfire?

Yep. Spitfire SL574, just i shot, went to the San Diego Museum and the P-51 came for to the RAF Museum.

This shot was taken at the press call at RAF Halton.

What happened to the P-51?

When Bob Tullius donated P-51D N51RT to the RAF museum they sent this composite airframe to Cosford. Believe it's still there.

If that's it at Cosford, then here are some pics.

Think some parts might be a little later than a -5NA or -1NT. Check the sides of the glare shield...
