Rod Lewis Warbirds

Where can i see his warbirds.

A number of them are regularly at airshows and such - when they have pilots available. Right now there is no museum, but I have heard several times that they are looking for the right "spot." There is a hangar with some of them at the big airport in SA, but you have to get permission to visit and I don't think it's just the warbirds they keep there. That usually means knowing someone there to contact. I haven't been yet myself. Also the TSA is tightening the regulations at the big airport, so you'd probably have to be escorted. Here's hoping they can find that spot.

Out of curiosity, which airshows do his birds attend? I know some of them have been to Osh, but where else?

It looks like one of his Tigercats at the very least will be at CNO this year. I would expect more since he owns a slug of Grummans.

Rod has brought some aircraft to the LSFM airshow in Galveston.

He had 3 of his birds at the Dec 7 event in Fredricksburg, Tx. and had a fly-in at his ranch a couple of weeks back. Like Ryan said I don't think you can get access at San Antonio International. He may or may not have been at the secret owners convention last month, nobody knows for sure.

Just to clarify, I do know at least two folks there and am pretty sure I could arrange for a visit if I absolutely decided I had to, but I really don't want to abuse friendships, and don't have tons of time (right now) to do it. The other part is that they really aren't set up to be a museum where they're at and have an active flight program that's business related. I would rather not interfere with their normal operations at this point in time.

I would be shocked if some of the aircraft didn't show up at WOH, Randolph, Reno, etc...

Someone that knows Mr. Lewis tell him that Reese Technology Center [formerly Reese AFB] in Lubbock, Tx has the hanger space for him. I also just talked to the Director of the center, and he said he would love to talk to him about putting a museum there. [he also said at a very good rate] What's my angle? Lubbock would be closer for me to go see the Rod Lewis Museum than San Antiono. But if he does open a museum, I'll be be on my way to see it no matter where it is.

Yeah, but who ever visits Lubbock. San Antonio is actually a fairly popular tourist destination, for whatever reason. All you guys have up there are the Red Raiders... :lol:

I spent 15 years out there and a "visit" is all I need from Lubbock.... :wink:

I would like to say that the DFW area would be a good candidate for a museum but you see how Cavanaugh fared with the bond election thing and you know where the "City of Fort Worth" B-36 is now.... :cry:

The airport next to Temple is a really nice one. They have lots of runways, but Waco has a lot more hangers to look at, and both of those would be a lot closer to San Antonio.

I don't think you are being really fair to Addison there Z. It wasn't explained very well to the citizens and I think it failed by about 10 votes. For an election that only had it on the ballot locally. And a big reason for those against it to turn out.

I will agree with you on Fort Worth though. It could be worse, Dallas ran off a perfectly good railroad museum.

It may not be totally fair but it seems to be par for the course around here...

Fort Worth is pitiful when it comes to aviation. They owe a lot to the industry..what kind of town would Ft. Worth be with out Carswell and Lockmart?
They have been unfriendly to the VFM and the Aviation Heritage Museum never took off. The airport authority and the towns that surround the airports are unfriendly to the public and the NIMBYs hate airports.

I can totally agree with you about Fort Worth, I hate to say I feel the same way about Dallas and how it wants to forget its heritage.

I have no reason to defend Addison, but to lump them with Dallas and Fort Worth, I think, is wrong.

Some of the Cavanaugh folks may know better, but from all I have heard, Addison likes and supports the CFM.

NIMBY was not a factor in the Addison vote, just look at a map of the city. The residential areas are off to the sides of the airport.

The Addison bond election came down to who was motivated to vote for the US president. Those who were motivated to vote were not the ones who would have supported the things that the bond package benefited. Not Addison's or CFM's fault. Though Addison could have promoted the package as a way to bring in even more dollars from the surrounding cities to pay for all the neat stuff that the citizens of Addison get.
