Why do so many rare aircraft world over - still get mounted outside on pylons or on ground settings..

Why do they get approved, when all it does is really long run cost as much as a building to keep restoring them year in out from animals, weather and vandals etc?

Because people don't appreciate the past. They no longer see the machines as important enough to deserve inside display. That and you can project the cost of the building and its maintenance over time but the display aircraft is seen as only needing paint every now and then. Short sighted yes but there it is.

There have been a number of great photos within the past few months on WIX of nice museums that have their P-51 indoors and A-4 outdoors. It's a never ending cycle. In 25 years we'll all be complaining how the A-4s and F-15s have rotted away because we left them outdoors.

i was at lahm ang base, mansfield ohio 2 days ago for my son's marine enlistment seminar. the f-84 & f-100 that are on sticks are well maintained. also, fyi......... security their is very good!!!
