Yes yes, I know there called the Wings of Eagles museum now, but i think the old name was way cooler. 8) Regardless, what is the news with this once very dynamic museum, that has gone stagnate due to money troubles? There out of debt now right? Are they planning on bringing back to life any other aircraft like their C-47? Any info would be appreciated. Love this museum and location!

I live about 45 minute away but havent been there in about two years.

Recently the museum added a flyable L-5 to the collection. I also see that they still own the R4D-5. Last time I checked it was to be restored to static but now been told its being restored to flying condition. :D

Other flyable aircraft:

L-3
PT-17
PT-19
Mig 17PF
SNJ-3
J-3C
J-4B.

The museum keeps quiet about stuff. I have no idea about the finacial status of the place anymore. The place is now considered a discovery center for learning and such. They have weddings there still. I know because I was to one there! I need to get back up there and get you WIX'ers a first hand report.

HTH,
Nathan

That would be great, and very cool on how close your to the museum! I'm only 6 hours away.

But I relate the New England Air Museum up in Windsor Locks to be about an hour away from me so I've got that. :) When I saw this recently on there website:

"Douglas R4D-5/C-47 (Skytrain) - Serial No. 43-13860; Reg. No. N293WM; Restoration to Flight Status." -I got a little happy. :D

I still hope for big things for this museum. I think the location is great and spacious, with room to add on. Seeing some of the combat types return to the field would be a major plus too. Harpoon, B-25, P-51, anything! But I do hope they shake off this "discovery center" display museum idea and get back to what the core group was when it started. Flying the planes for the sake of flying them. And probably having a good time doing it too. 8)

A few years ago at an airfest I asked one of the volunteers if the museum planned to have anymore airshows. He told me that was the plan. But I am thinking that will not happen. I heard they are not allowed to have airshows there anymore. :? :( :x Whatever happens you can bet that the NWM/WOE center will never be what it once was. I know they give airplane rides in the PT-19, SNJ, and PT-17 but they are asking way too much for those rides. You can get a ride in a B-17 for the same price for their SNJ ride. So with that just wait when the Collings foundation comes to town and get a ride with them. Tell Jim and Chuck that Nathan says hi. 8)
