Greetings All -

I've been scanning my friend Fred Harl's collection and this one was particularly fine and worth sharing to B-24 fans....

Enjoy the Day! Mark

B-24D # 41-24102

The airplane nearest to the camera, B-24D # 41-24102, was lost in a fatal accident on 23 August 1944. The airplane suffered an in-flight fire of the number three engine after a propeller failure. The fire burned uncontrollably and the starboard wing exploded. The airplane crashed about 18 miles NW of the Army Air Field at Muroc, California. Five crew were killed and five were injured parachuting to safety, one seriously.

Thanks for that info - training at home could be/was as dangerous as being in the ETO, MTO or PTO....

Enjoy the Day! Mark
