Anyone have pictures of the Planes of Fame Val Restoration?

Has it started ? Last I hear, it was in the same long term storage condition as I had last saw it..............20 years ago.

not the best, dont know what happened when taking these 2 pictures... the rest turned out nicely........ :shock:

Actually it has been in almost continual restoration the entire time. If you knew what it looked like when it arrived, you would know that a significant amount of work has already been completed. :wink:

It's a big job to de-Diemert-ize it!!!! I've heard some very scary things about this aeroplane. Needless to say, Bob was in fine form! :shock:

With a Diemert plane, it is easier to give you a list of what was right with it, it is a much shorter list

It's looking original down to the mount points of the Horizontal tail. The only part that might not be totally original is the part of the fuselage between the rear of the canopy and the empennage. This area was damaged when a tree fell on it while at Ballale.

DID YOU GET MORE PICS OF OTHER STUFF????????? Those parts on the cart infront of the tarp are N3N parts. I see a vertical and a horizontal and part of the cowling

I have always been very interested in Vals in general and this aircraft in particular. I just hope I get to see it in person someday.

On a side note wouldn't the Val be one of the easier aircraft to reproduce from scratch as opposed to an Oscar, for example? What round motor would make the most sense as far as a replacement for the original?

Also I wonder from a handling standpoint if the Val was considered a forgiving aircraft to fly or if it had any nasty habits?

well yea i got other pictures of the place but only had time to upload those 2 yesterday.. might have to wait till tomorrow when i get home to get the rest... ill post them in my original post about my cali trip. i also have to get some pics off my iphone as well. i have some decent shots for you guys and gals out there.
