Mgawa, as a lifelong student of the NA-16 family, I can tell you that there were never any NA-44s in the Dominican Republic. I have seen one photograph which shows an AT-6 type with a three bladed propellor, but nothing else which identifies it as anything but an AT-6.

However, there is some evidence that a US military advisory group went to Chile in 1939 or 1940, taking with them an aircraft identified as a BC-2. Now this aircraft is essentially a BC-1A (predecessor to the AT-6) with a three bladed prop. I would be more than willing to make an educated guess that this is what has been mis-labelled in the DR as an NA-44.

I'm 3000 miles from home, but I will see if I have a copy of the Dominican photo on my HD.

I'm back. The attached photo was received from Luis Puesan and shows the wrongly named NA-44 in the foreground. If it was indeed a derivative of the NA-44 line, it should have a fairing under the centre section, which covered the fuel lever and oil sump. On reflection, so too should the BC-2, which I suggested earlier, so I will have to retract that suggestion as well.
