what was the name of that company that made really cool furniture from old aircraft parts?? based in california. are they still in business?? they were featured on one of the military or history channels. i also remember their stuff while 1st class was very pricey, & then factor in shipping costs too!!

Tom, you're thinking of MotoArt. I think they're still in business too. As it turns out, it looks like I'm personally going to be getting into that line of work a little bit as well, so stand by for some neat stuff coming from Austin Acres soon.

Got a better one, Clay Regazonni was driving at the Speedway for Bill Simpson and cartwheeled while qualifying. Bill had the entire wreck cubed at the local junk yard and had a glass top put on it in the garage area for a very expensive (at the time) coffee table.

In the '70's there was a triple engined Honda 750 drag bike that was made into a coffee table for the company's waiting room. It was awesome

Unfortunately, I also know the Offy, four cam Ford, helped develop the Cosworth Indy motor. I knew Mel Kenyon, George Snider, AJ, Bobby, Mario, etc. Worked for VPJ with Al Sr. starting in the early 70's. Jimmy McElreath, on & on.
Never once worked in the new garages. Mine were all wood and dated to the origin. Even before women were allowed in the pits.

Scott...funny you should mention Unser. I used to race stockers with him (mostly behind him) in the late '50s in on a 3/8 mile dirt track in ABQ. Never will forget the time he brought the Pike's Peak car the track. Awesome display of HP. Actually left black streaks in the dirt.

Mudge, have to be careful here as I am veering away from warbirds, but Al had a Pike's Peak car built by a guy named Vince Conzzi that was a chevy powered car that weighed about 800 pounds!
He said that every time he ran it, something would break off but it was a rocket up the mountain.
Funny, I ran USAC midgets and CRA Sprint cars and ran against Little Al a few times. First midget ride was Night Before the 500 in a 32 Curtis Offy.

That's salt flats speed record stuff. Never went there. Some real interesting designs over the years though.
