This is pretty neat. It's an F-16 painted up as Tarheel Hal.

So wheres the air to air shots with LSFM's 47? :D

Believe me...we tried hard to get that done. LSFM was willing as was the FWANG unit but eventually the Wing Commander who is also my neighbor just decided it was going to be too difficult with the time remaing for that jet. Last week it was grounded and will become a statiic display.

They announced last week that they are replacing the Vipers with Hogs too...

Kinda sorta. Where's that red and yellow nose? Does that sqn participate an any Heritage flight activities? You may be on to something.

kind of ironic since the AF wanted to replace the Hogs with Vipers, now the Hogs are replacing the Vipers instead.

Tim, there is still an opportunity here perhaps. What if you position the F-16 on the tarmac, and shoot the P-47 flying low, above the F-16?

I used John Myer's P-47 photo for the layout concept. I hesitate to post this because of all the copyright issues around here lately, but it's simply to illustrate the concept for the photoshoot.

That's pretty cool.
My dear friend Sam Hitchcock was the CO of the 366th FS from winter 1944 throught Occupation duty and their return to the US. He rec'v IA*N to replace his previous P-47D IA*X but hated the gaudy markings and took IA*X back from 2Lt Ira Davis (who joined the squadron has a replacement just has the war ended and didn't fly any missions) got IA*N and added the name in honor of his brother. The rest has they say is history. Sam flew his first mission at PH on Dec 7th and flew the last 358th FG mission in the ETO (200+ missions total) then was in the Pacific again when the war ended for good. If he'd kept that plane he'd be famous. But, that wasn't he style 8)
