Landing gear looks British. Couldn't be a B-18, or B-23 could it?

My "guess" is C-47.

A C-47 ??

Unfortunately resolution is not that good but it looks like bomb bay doors in the belly.

The landing gear say C-47/DC-3 to me, too.

I see both engines to the right. It looks to me like it was rolled or pushed into the ravine as scrap and picked apart in later years.

With all that structure around the center section, I'd lean towards a B-18.
Did anyone look at the other photos he posted?
There a whole Japanese mini sub sitting there. Someone should rescue that!

Difficult to tell by the size of the photo. But it appears to have bomb bay doors...more Bolo-like?

...Alaska needs to re think their 'historic sites" policy. I'll bet there are any number of museums that would love to rescue that mini sub for display.

My vote is B-23. If those are bomb doors, they look pretty flat. The B-18 had a big belly.

Definitely Douglas pedigree. Note butt joined wing outer/center section. I'm willing to bet a nickel its a B-18

Those are really some amazing pictures. The Mini sub is truly fascinating.

Thank you Laurent for posting the link.

Oh, and I think it's a B-18. The landing gear struts on a B-18 and a C-47 are very similar, as are the wing attach points on both airplanes. What makes me think it's a B-18 over a C-47 is what appears to be a bomb bay doors, the narrowness of the fuselage, and the smashed up nose section which doesn't seem to have enough metal there for what I'd expect a C-47 to look like. The more fragile nose of the B-18, seems more appropriate.

Cheers,

David
