Not sure if this has been done before, but how 'bout a thread specifically on jets used as playground toys.

I seem to remember playing on a Cougar and possibly a T-33 or F-86 in the mid-70's in central NJ. I can't remember which towns, I only got to see them when Dad would stop during a weekend drive. I remember crawling through from the tailpipe to the intake.

Was hoping to find photos from NJ, but, absent that, let's cover all the playground jets we can.

Ken

From what I am told there is a playground in Wall Township NJ (i think) that is called "jet playground" or something like that. No one seems to remember the type but the sign for the playground shows an Panther I believe......

I think you're talking about the Cougar that is located in Tonawanda, NY.

F9F Panther used to be at the Kansas City Mo Zoo. Disappeared years ago and nobody knows where it went. I can't find anyone in the system that ever knew it was there. It was down by the Locomotive.

Wall Township might be a good clue. Dad used to fly out of the Asbury Park Airport back in the day and was also quite the race fan at Wall Stadium.

Check Mike Henniger's locator database. He has a lot of these already pointed out. I know there is an F9F and an F-86 in the Los Angeles area-both covered in a layer of Gunite (concrete).

As a kid growing up in Ft. Liquordale, Fl (late 50's early 60's) I seem to recall crawling all over a f7u Cutlass in a playground that we frequented.

F-86H-10-NH s/n 53-1528 in outdoor storage at Lunken Airport was once part of a playground near the end of the runway. I've not seen any pictures of it when it was back there, though.

There was apark in south Denver, Littleton specifically, that had a miniature train that ran around it, off Belleview avenue near Sante Fe drive that I used to call 'The Airplane Park' when I was young because it had what LOOKED like an airplane in it as a playtoy for the kids.....looking back now, I believe it was some variant of the Regulus missile...short stubby wings (long for a missile), T tail, the tips higher than the vertical stab.....cleaned out so there was basically only a seat for the kids...dunno if it's still there, but it was very popular...

Anyone in CO know of it?

Mark

There was a jet in the school yard of Big Foot Tx back when. Used to go down that way in the business days gone by. Anyone down that way (Ryan) ever get over there. Not too far from Cannon Field.

I grew up playing on a T-33 filled with cement near San Jose CA. The park was in Los Gatos. If jdvoss, sees this maybe he can stop by and take a few shots, as it's in his neck of the woods. I'd love to see it again, if it's still there.
