I was there in the fall. The B-17 is complete and 100% restored. It just needs final assembly. It looks like the County and the state are now going to support the museum as well. So it looks like it is going to happen.

Ahhh! I knew I had seen some pics of her complete somewhere! Is this the only fort with the armor plate on the waist guns? It's the only one I recall. She looks rather complete, she needs a nice museum around her now!

But what is the point of displaying "My Gal" on her belly rather than on landing gear? If the idea is to display her "as landed" in Greenland then are they going to retain all the landing damage as well?

There is an interesting story associated with this landing. They were at a remote location with little chance of being found and rescued. They needed a running engine to power the radio but props were bent and in contact with the ground. So, they sawed the props off the number four engine so they could run that engine to power the radio.

So ... if they plan to display "as landed" are they going to keep the original bent and saws props on the aircraft?

The goal of the display is to display her on her belly, on the ice. The original prop that was cut, has been preserved, and it will beon the aircraft for display. The walls of the museum are going to honor the pilots and crews of WWII.
