Have you tried the owner listed through FAA N #?
VADEBONCOEUR MICHAEL D
Street 11 LINCOLNSHIRE AVE
City DANVILLE State ILLINOIS Zip Code 61832-1674
County VERMILION
Country UNITED STATES

and this from an article, 1999 (not sure this is the same airframe or not...I'm thinking not)

"VadeBonCoeur is working on one that was pulled from a lake in Uruguay. "It was pretty much Swiss cheese," he says. Practically the only thing that will be original in the restoration is the manufacturer's data plate. "that's enough," says Saether. "then you have the airplane's soul."

What happened with this P-51?

Was it a complete aircraft while in Indiana or just pieces?

That was N12700. He also had N800DK, a project at the time.
