What's the aircraft type?
From the State Library of Victoria, circa 1947:

Curtiss prop with a single large float, radial engine and sitting on a catapult... Probably not a Sea Hurricane.
I'm guessing a Seahawk.

Thanks chaps. I had a guess at that, but wondered if there were any alternatives.

I think the Curtiss SC-1 Seahawk the most significant American WWII type that has no survivors. I have never even heard mention of a wreck in the ocean, though there must be something somewhere.
Does the Naval Aviation Musuem in Pensacola have a short list of "must-haves." Considering how much they spend on a Brewster Buffalo of non-American history, what might they do to retrieve a Seahawk?

Unfortunately, I think it was one of those obscure types that "fell through the cracks." Not a huge number were built to begin with, and I don't think any were sold to foreign operators.
Well, the warm feelings worked..it's in the 40s today. Of course, all the melting snow has turned my driveway into a lake!

Hey Chris... you might be thinking of the Columbia XJL-1, which has a similar general appearance to the Curtiss Sea Hawk. There are two of these stil around if I remember correctly...
Cheers,

I was bout to guess 'Old Slow & Ugly' since as has been noted, the SC-1 is a little known type with no survivors.
How many XJL's were built. Only two wasn't it.? That thing looks like an SBD crossbred with a Grumman Duck.
