One of the P-47s in that photo crashed in a swamp down
south. It's remains are in a hanger down the street from
the B-17.

DryMartini - could you shed some light on this Jug thats in the hanger? Is it being actively restored, or just in storage? What are the plans for it? Thanks.

Are you saying there is a P-47 razorback outside Marengo ILL.

We need photos

The plane bellied into a swamp.
It was then consumed in a brush fire.
Everything above the waterline burned, but
that which was below survived.
The "remains" are indeed in a hanger/barn
near Marengo. I'll try to snap a picture next
time I'm out that way, but rest assured
that I think you will be quite disappointed.

Bill, doesn't he have 2 of them? I think that is what Mike was telling me. I'd love to make a trip out there this summer in the hot rods again.

The real question is if a dataplate survived! It would be quite neat to see an early-style P-47 restoration (preferably in 4th FG markings ).

Mind you I really like the lines of the early P47s some refer to as razorbacks, but to my eye, the bubble canopy looks more "modern".
Then again, I really like the P35 - 1 nice looking a/c.
