I was reading a book... shocking I know!

This is about the time of year that things were fubared after a successful landing at Anzio.

One soldiers prayer...

"God Help us. Please come yourself. Don't send Jesus. This is no place for children."

Told of a German bomber raid with a plane being chased by four allied fighters jettisoning its bombs. Some of them hit the "hospital" area creating great carnage. The pilot was shot down and later treated in the same facility.

The only reasons the airplanes matter is what the veterans did with them... and why.

My dad told us the story of the hospital bombing, as he understood it, when I was a youth. I didn't record his side of this story, but I think he was on a vessel waiting for his unit to go ashore and heard of the incident through the GI rumor network.
