Does anyone recall the B-18 # 36-446 found in the mountians in Hawaii a little while back. Machine virtually intact/complete. If this is remembered, does anyone know the status of the airframe?

That would be B-18 # 36-446, which crashed on the big island of Hawaii on February 25, 1941. There are photos of the wreck on Nick Veronico's Wreckchasing site:

The B-18 you refer to is on our property between Waimanu and Honopue valleys on the island of Hawai'i. We are currently in talks with the Pacific Aviation Museum regarding possibly moving it to the museum on O'ahu.

Although the October 2006 earthquake caused the plane to slide further into the gulch, damaging the right wing more than it already was, the plane is in surprisingly good condition- there is even still air in the tires! However anything easily removed has been stolen by pirates and the Air Force.

You can contact me for more information at <ypochris@yahoo.com>

Pretty neat stuff. Any more info on the NMUSAF recovery of the turret i.e. how did they get to the plane and when did they do this?
