Blackhawk down (13 Jan 2009) at Tex A&M - Date Mod Ed.

Mon Jan 12, 2009 5:07 pm

Just saw that a Blackhawk is down at Texas A&M in College Station. The airframe is intact but it looks like it had either a hard landing or autorotation. The aircraft is sitting on its belly. Injured folks were taken to a local hospital. More as they report.

Link contains the full story which as usual is screwed up. Story says helicopter's rudder failed on takeoff.

R.I.P. to the deceased, and hopes of a full recovery to the others. Godspeed and thanks for your service.

Rick, that's awful and in a way it is close to home. As one who has Son on a college campus I feel a little extra for any loss there. I will never forget the day that tragedy came to U T. I have been to both the airport in College Station and to the A& M campus. If there is any good side I guess it is that this doesn't seem to be students, but may well be other young people.
