I wonder if anyone here happens to have a collection of US magazines such as LIFE or Time magazine or Stars and Stripes or any of the specifically aviation oriented periodicals from the wartime period, more specifically 1942-1945?

I am curious as to whether any articles may have appeared about the Royal New Zealand Air Force in the Pacific (or at home in New Zealand) in wartime US media? After all, the RNZAF squadrons came under US command in the Pacific and our men lived and fought alongside US servicemen on many island bases and in many air battles. And I guess with the large US presence in New Zealand which was used for training and R&R as well as hospitals etc, there may have been a bit of publicity about the bonds between the two nations.

Are any of these wartime magazines available online, like the UK magazine Flight is nowadays? I'm interested mainly in seeiing if anything about our General Reconnaissance and Bomber Reconnaissance squadrons was written, but I'd also be keen to read anything about our fighter, dive-bomber, flying boat and other units if it exists.

Thanks.

Hi Dave;
I have quite a few magazines from that period in my collection. I'm re-organizing my storage of stuff at the moment due to a water problem in the basement, so as I go through stuff, I'll see what I can dig up.
Be patient, it may take a while!

Thanks Jerry. I'm happy to wait a while. I really appreciate it.

I thought I'd resurrect this thread to ask any luck yet Jerry?

Thanks for the reminder!
I actually came across a British Magazine that focused on the Royal Air Force
during the war just last week. I'll take a closer look to see if there are any references to RNZAF's actions.

I can recommend 'Naval Aviation News'. All their WW2 issues are on-line.

Thanks for that tip Glyn, that's a great resource. Now to do lots of searching and see if they ever mentioned the kiwis. Cheers!

I went through the British magazine I have, and although they mention the Commonwealths on the over they really don't say much about anybody but Canada and Britain. I'll keep looking.
