P61- how was it on one engine?

Have been looking thru my A-26 files and ran across the single-engine guidelines. Made me wonder what the p-61's were like and what their reputation was; spoilers and all....? Anybody ever heard?

Do rolls into the dead engine tell you anything ? It did them fine.

I remember an article a couple years ago in a magazine, I still have it
somewhere.. was it airpower? or wings? that had a very cool interview
with a northrop test pilot, I think his name was john meyer (myer?) or
something like that. He had a aerial demo that would evidently take off,
do some aerobatics that included feathering an engine, turning it around
and bringing the plane in on a short field... Being a big p61 super fan,
I can only imagine what this would have looked like to see it live.

I don't think the MAAM guys will want to try this out when they get theirs
flyable.. besides.. I have money into that plane.. I guess I don't want
them to try it deliberately either!

I have read the same about the Martin B-26, demos of a like nature to ease peoples fears. The P-61 is probably my all time fav, but always read it was seriously under powered. I would love to see that. People harp on the Herc but I can tell you she will bring you back on two at 127 with out much fan fair or pant messing.

In the Osprey book it mentions that the pilots were a bit afraid of it and didn't like the plane until the demo pilot came through and started giving single engine acro rides.

Back in 1969, I saw a Herc fly over our property headed to Dobbins AFB, she had two engines shut down and props feathered, looked like she was doing just fine

I don't recall reading that anywhere, but I can't imagine a P-61 being underpowered and still having the performance it had.
