Barksdale AFB B-17 (Pics)

Drove by the 8th Air Force museum in Lousiana a couple of days ago. Maybe the threat of loosing the planes is spurring some action. While most of the planes need a lot of work, some had work in progress.

No I didn't, but I wish I had. It was so cold that I didn't even think about it!

Looks like a real chin turret.I like the natural metal but not out doors.Notice the repair on the lower wing tip looks as if it was put on with screws. At least you could change it out easier.I hope the get the WW2 birds under cover.

This is the aircraft that should go to the NASM. Or the TULARE one

Not to offend anyone but it is not like the planet is short of B17s. Stating that though I cant justify the decision making that has gone into a natural aluminum finish on an outdoor display frame. Why not make fibreglass replicas and get these aircraft inside!

i agree with that peter , but lets start with the lancasters first!!

Fri Dec 19, 2008 6:48 pm

Working on that. within a year or two we should have 1 possibly no lancasters outside!

Great news Peter!
